Today is International Volunteer Day, an opportunity for us all to recognise volunteer contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at local, national and international levels. We thank volunteers and celebrate their efforts, despite the challenges of 2020.

This year's theme is #TogetherWeCan through volunteering, and this reflects the way volunteers have been at the forefront of responses this year to both during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Australian summer bushfires.

Partner Housing is privileged to be supported by a wide range of skilled volunteers, this year providing extra support to Australians who lost houses and buildings to the bushfires, as well as continuing to support our programs throughout the South Pacific despite the restrictions on travel due to COVID. This overseas work continues – Design, construction and funding for the PNG Umi Community Health Building, the Solomon Islands Giloe school water supply, Philippines rural latrines and other programs.

Thank you to our volunteers and to all those around the world who this year have given their time, and often risked their own wellbeing to look after their communities.
